So what do you think about the new Adventures In Hosting logo? I am by no means an image editing expert, but I have to say that I am pretty darn happy with it. It was a pain and a half to create though because I don’t have any photo editing skills, so sadly I created the image in Microsoft Word and a program I was recently introduced to named GIMP.
If you had seen what Adventures In Hosting previously looked like, the header was BORING! It was only the text of “Adventures In Hosting”. Since I lost the SEO from the text header, I finally managed to put title tags in the header. This is quite easy with cPanel Hosting since you don’t have to mess with FTP programs and can edit the header right in cPanel.
I incorrectly kept trying to figure out a way to upload the image into WordPress. It wasn’t quite that easy. I had to:
1.) Right click where the title of the blog was and selected “View Background Image”. The image location for this blog is “http://adventuresinhosting.com/wp-content/themes/rounded/images/head.jpg”. This was the image I actually had to edit. The name of the image is head.jpg. I saved this image to my desktop.
2.) I used GIMP to place the logo I had previously created over the image saved from step 1. I saved the image as head.jpg in a different folder on my computer, keeping the original head.jpg as a backup in case I screwed up.
3.) I logged into my cPanel account and found the “images” directory based on where the current header was located. I uploaded the new head.jpg logo there.
4.) I went to Adventures In Hosting and refreshed the page. My beautiful new logo was there, but it was conflicting with the text title that was there.
5.) The final step was logging into WordPress, selecting “Options” and deleting the original text title of the blog.

I came across a discussion board on Flickr today with the topic surrounding a gentleman looking to begin a real estate photo business. He was looking for recommendations regarding a web host. The entire discussion can be found here. A2 Hosting received a nice recommendation on this discussion. Below is an excerpt from the recommendation.
“I use A2hosting @ www.a2hosting.com/ inexpensive, great control panel, CPanel. I have had 100% up time for the last 8 months. TONS of applications and frameworks you can build upon. And for 250gb space and transfer (byte not bit!), UNLIMITED domains, sub domains, emails, forwarders, alias’s, lists and MySQL databases is only 7.95 a month! Id check them out.”
The good news is that you can actually purchase the package referenced above for $6.95/month.

I had a great conversation yesterday to clear up my confusion regarding CPU processing, hard disk space and memory. I guess I am not the only one that is confused regarding the difference in these terms. I had mixed up each term for one another at some time or another and also thought that a few were synonymous with the same things. I came up with an analogy to better understand each of these processes.
Think of an office with 3 things. These things are workers, one desk and a file cabinet.
1.) Hard disk space would be equivalent to the filing cabinet. A bigger filing cabinet, the more “stuff” you can store. The ame thing can be said with a web hosting account. The more hard disk space you have, the more stuff you can store.
2.) Memory is equivalent to the desk. The larger the desk you have, the more stuff you can work on at a time. Everything that is done with the projects on the desk is temporary, unless saved into the filing cabinet. Same can be said about memory. You can work on projects that are currently in memory, but they are not permanent unless they are saved and moved into the hard disk space.
3.) Processing speed is how many employees are working on the project. The more people you have, the better, in this scenario. Employees help you to store the projects on the desk (memory) into the filing cabinet (hard disk), pull files from the filing cabinet to the desk and helps you be more efficient when working on the projects currently on the desk.

If you have visited the VPS Hosting page at the Linux Hosting provider’s site A2 Hosting, you will notice the term “burstable memory”. What is burstable memory? To better understand this topic, one must understand that an OpenVZ VPS account offers a dedicated amount of space as well as the burstable amount that sets a maximum limit for memory available. Let’s say you have a VPS account with 512MB of dedicated space and 512MB of burstable space. If you have already utilized the 512MB of guaranteed memory. An OpenVZ account’s have access to an additional 512MB of burstable memory for a total of 1024MB of memory.
It is important to understand that burstable memory isn’t guaranteed space. That additional 512MB of burstable space can only be used if there is that much space available on the server.

According to this press release, Adobe is going to work with Google and Yahoo to help them index flash content which was previously not included in their search algorithms. The press release specifically mentions the following:
Adobe is providing optimized Adobe® Flash® Player technology to Google and Yahoo! to enhance search engine indexing of the Flash file format (SWF) and uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines.
This is great news for certain websites who will experience a boost in search rankings, especially those that are built primarily with flash and for those businesses that have complex products and use flash demos to exhibit their products.
