I was just looking through a number of A2 Hosting pages and came across one that I hadn’t seen before. That is our Git Hosting page. Git is an open-source version control system created to manage very large projects, especially those that are being worked on by a number of people. Those interested in Git Hosting should certainly choose A2 Hosting as Git is pre-installed on all of our servers.

A question that I wondered about for some time was how web developers that create open source programs, that are free to use, earn money. As a marketer, I was always taught to constantly look for new ways to monetize your business. If you have created an amazing piece of software, essentially your “baby”, why would you let people use it for free when you could easily make money off of it. I did some research and below are a few ways that open-source developers end up monetizing their project.

  • Developing a quality piece of open-source software is a great way to get name recognition. Not only can a top company contact and handpick the developer regarding a position in the company, but it is also a wonderful resume building tool especially for college students.
  • It is possible to offer the software without every feature. Charging for upgrades is a way for open source developers to earn income.
  • Charging to offer support for the piece of software is another way to make money.
  • Many of these sites also have a PayPal icon asking for well earned donations.

Regardless of how the open source developers are earning their money, they sound like they are doing well. I also read that open-source products reduce business development costs by 50%. Everybody wins!

A2 Hosting offers a 30-day money back guarantee. This is virtually free sample Linux web hosting. Give A2 Hosting a try and if you’re not happy with your service after 30 days, your money will be refunded. Risk free web hosting, you can’t ask for more than that.

Blogger Sam Davis of Blasted Thing wrote a great mention of A2 Magento Hosting. He wrote:

Probably the grand-daddy of Magento Hosting!  These guys are proper good, because whatever you’ve you’re looking for (in terms of hosting Magento) they will do it.  If its only a small store you want, or a multitude of stores on your own dedicated server, they will set it up for you and it’s all ready to go.  I’ve used them and they are really great - and really well priced too, I should have a look at them if I were you.

The grand-daddy of Magento hosting, eh? I tend to agree. You can read the rest of his post here.

I haven’t posted much information about the A2 Hosting Affiliate Program recently, so I figured I should just post a little recap about the program.

Commission: You earn 300% of the first month’s sales. For example, if you refer a hosting account for $7.95 that costs per month, you earn $23.85.

2nd Tier Commission: If someone clicks on your affiliate link and signs up for the A2 Hosting affiliate program, they are put onto your second tier. For any sale that they make, you earn a 25% commission.

Cookie Life: We have a 30 day cookie. This means that when someone clicks on your affiliate link but doesn’t purchase from our site immediately, you still receive a referral commission if they come back and purchase within 30 days.
